Student Network

Are we prepared for the discovery of extraterrestrial intelligence?

What has the likelihood of being the most significant moment in human history, the discovery of extraterrestrial intelligence will have huge ramifications for humankind.
The SETI International Student Research Network (ISRN) seeks to globally combine students and early-career professionals in all aspects of SETI and post-detection research, including policy-making, space diplomacy, astrobiology, public education, international law and philosophy.
By coming together as people from all over the planet, across a wide range of disciplines, we make sure we are prepared for a discovery.

Networks and opportunities

The SETI ISRN was set-up in 2024 to co-ordinate the student interest in SETI (the search for extraterrestrial intelligence). At every university in the world there are students with academic potential to contribute to this endeavour: this network will connect us all.
This network seeks to encourage connections between different student groups and early-career professionals to cultivate an interest in SETI and assist one another in research. In doing so, it will open up a whole world of professional opportunities for its members.

SETI Post-Detection Hub

The SETI Post-Detection Hub is an initiative of the UK SETI Research Network (UKSRN), and is jointly hosted by the St Andrews Centre for Exoplanet Science, the Centre for Global Law and Governance, the Durham Law School, and the Jodrell Bank Centre for Astrophysics of the University of Manchester. It seeks to co-ordinate expert thought on the detection of both life and intelligence in the Cosmos, and advocates for planning now by setting out impact assessments, protocols, procedures and treaties designed to allow humanity to respond responsibly.
